FULL CIRCLE EDUCATION GROUP BUYS STUDIO CAMBRIDGE
The Full Circle Education Group has successfully acquired Studio Language Courses (Cambridge) Ltd.
Established in 1954, Studio Cambridge is one of the oldest and most successful English Language Schools in the UK. It has a year-round school for adults and young learners in Cambridge and seven high-quality summer centres at various locations in southern England. Its permanent staff of 50 are joined by 250 to help run the summer courses.
Christopher Roberts, owner and Chairman of Studio Cambridge, who joined the school as a teacher in 1972, said: “I wanted to pass Studio Cambridge on to new owners with a passion for education, an international vision, and an appreciation of how EFL can fit into the wider aspiration of international understanding and co-operation. I believe that with Full Circle we have found the right buyers.”
Danny Wang, Managing Director of Full Circle, said: “We are immensely privileged to be the new owners of Studio Cambridge, one of the most respected names in the UK English Language Teaching business. We want to assure everyone that it is ‘business as usual’ at Studio and that all current plans, agent relationships and contracts will continue. Looking to the future, we plan to build on Studio’s success, excellent reputation and strong brand and to complement this with our own history, skills and vision for the future.”
Studio Cambridge
Studio Cambridge was started by Tony Mills in 1954. As a prisoner during the Second World War, Tony had seen how the teaching and learning of languages could bring down cultural, international and even political barriers.
When he returned home he started teaching English in his wife’s “studio” (she was an artist) and “The Studio School of English” was born – 64 years ago.
For the past 60 years, the school has been located in impressive Victorian, university-owned, buildings in central Cambridge. It offers courses for up to 350 young learners and adults year round.
In the summer, it adds more than 1,000 places on seven internationally-renowned language and activity programmes for young learners at prestigious schools and universities in southern England:
- Cambridge University Colleges (Newnham, Lucy Cavendish and Ridley Hall)
- The American International University in Richmond-upon-Thames
- Leighton Park School in Reading
- the historic school of King’s Ely, and
- the prestigious Hockerill Anglo-European College in Bishop’s Stortford.
- the Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge
Studio Cambridge is a Home Office Tier 4 sponsor and is accredited by both the British Council and ISI – the Independent School Inspectorate. It is an IELTS and Cambridge Assessment centre, a member of IALC, and a founding member of English UK, the trade association for English language schools.
